Remember what Richard Feynman said:

Keep an open mind, but not so open that your brain falls out.

again, another misstatement. can you really read ? i dont have any reasons to believe in god. there is no information outside this universe for me to reason upon. how many times do i need to say this to you before it sinks in ? are all non-believers this slow ?

i have never adamantly insisted that there is a god. i am not even insisting that there is a god. i am not attempting to convert you over into believing.

Of course I don't have evidence of the existence of god. neither do you and I defy you to produce any.
once again, showing your inability to comprehend. the fact that you were positing is that THERE IS NO GOD. all of your lawyerese-like attempts to change the topic and misdirect what i say are not gonna work on me. but i will continue to make your remarks look silly.

hi amnesia,

i actually like that phrase, and believe it is pretty good advice.

however, it applies only to this universe.

when you are ready to admit to me that you can not definitively say that there is no god, then i will know that you are once again behaving like the normally good-reasoning person that you are. until then, i will understand that you have some emotional baggage that is preventing you from doing so.

i think we both know that there is no way for you to debate the statement that none of us can prove that god exists or doesnt exist. so to say either one of these things is to do so incorrectly.

That's true. However, the burden of proof is on the side that tries to buck rational thought.

The default for any reasonable person should be to only accept what can be demonstrated---that is, to reject faith entirely (where "faith" is defined as believing in the something without proof that is counter to logical thought).

okay, thank you.

however, i am certainly not gonna carry a burden for something that is impossible to do. LOL.

try to remember one thing. that "rational thought", as we define it, only applies to this universe. i sometimes also need to remind myself of this fact, since i know that my tendency towards belief in god is also stimulated by that same knowledge of this universe that does not apply to leading towards any information outside this universe.

hi ny,
thank you for asking me a question, without attempting to be intimidating.

i will try to answer you courteously, but what exactly are you asking ? my position on what ? on whether there is a god or not ?

that seems to be the subject at hand, yes.

okay. you already know that i believe that there is a god. and you already know that i know that i can not prove this to be true.

the reason i do not like the terms theist and atheist is because in at least the way that most people use and define them - they either refer to the total belief in god or the total disbelief in god. i do not believe that either of these things truly exists for someone thinking rationally about the concept, since with no information to use to make an informed decision, a rational thought process needs to include some doubt on either side.

the reason i dont like "belief" is that it can sometimes be used for "know", and sometimes used as "in my opinion".

i do believe in god. i guess by that i mean that i am on the side of the fence of believing. but by my definition, none us can ever touch the ground on either side. i simply lean towards that belief, and would say that i am certainly more than half way towards the ground.

i realize that is a somewhat general answer, so if i have not been specific enough, perhaps you could ask me a more specific question.

done and done.

next idiot care to answer the question "does god exist?"

gym could not prove god's existence and the buzzer has sounded.

another theist can not prove the existence (in this or any other universe, and last I checked we lived in this universe) of any god, as usual.

so far,

theres no need to call people idiots because they believe in something. I dont believe there is a god but I keep an open mind to there being the possibility, raised as a catholic does this. I don't think I'm right nor do I think believers are wrong because the argument can never be won. Nobody on either side has proof.

ny,

your last post was so obnoxious that i gave up on you. it was your tone with me that started everything.

when you actually asked me a question, i thought you were attempting to actually have a conversation. but then you follow it with the post that you did.

anybody reading thru the thread will find that you were the instigator. you just didnt like the fact that my logic was too solid, so you thought you would try the typical macho-intimidation. and then that didnt work either.

this thread was never about a score or convincing someone to believe one way or the other. and it is you who doth protest too much, which leads me to believe that you also have personal issues on the topic of god.

we were having pleasant conversations before you came on board. so if your only intent is to be obnoxious, please do so on some other thread that appreciates it.

I think not.
My first response to you in which I nailed you point by point was met with horrible tones and sarcastic insults. It is you who cannot solidify any sense of logic or reason.

The title of this thread is "does god exist", since you have not shown any reasonable explination for god's existence, and continue to spew random bits of nonsensical ramblings, it is obvious that it is you who cannot carry on a rational argument which remains on topic.

If you wish to debate the etymological differences between the words "theism" and "atheism", or which word best describes your own personal feelings, it would be advised to start your own thread on your feelings on the subject. This thread is for debating "does god exist", and since I've shown you that it does not, you should bow out of this thread.
