ub,

i agree with both you and amnesia, on this aspect. i agree with you that we have done this in the past, to help with people who are generating children. i agree with amnesia that we should be doing the reverse now, because there are way, way too many people on this planet. and we should not be encouraging us to produce more.

I too am single and think that insurance benefits need to be changed. Yes they should still offer the benefits to married as well as single employees. But instead of the single employees picking up the slack for familes that bleed the programs dry, there should be a lower flat rate per person enrolled. Single employee, $50. Employee and spouse $100, employee spouse and child $150, employee spouse and 2 childeren $200, and so on. Everyone is pulling their own weight equally. Sounds fair to me.

Why should single people be penalized with higher insurance rates because they choose not to spawn? It should be the resposibility of those that choose to spawn to bear the burden. You play, you pay. Why should single people have to pick up the slack?

As long as we're on that track, let's talk about property taxes. I think that the burden of the educational system should only be imposed on those that are using it. I recommend a property tax break in the amount being assesed for the school system for all SINGLE property owners. Why should we pay for something that we will never use or even care about??

Perhaps a better suggestion would be to privatize the entire public school system, much like colleges are now. You have offspring, you send them to school, you pay for the school. Problem solved. No longer do singles and seniors have to pick up the slack for something they get no direct beneft from. Sounds fair to me.

It seems like the whole system has been tilted in favor of those that CHOOSE to procreate. That is unfair, the burden should be carried equally. Perhaps my veiws will change should I decide to reproduce and the scales be tilted in my favor. Until then it's not fair. And every effort should be made to change things.

Should I ever find myself in a position where I have a company that employs people, the insurance program will be set up on a per person enrollment. You can take it or leave it, your decision.

But this is all off the subject matter. Sorry for the side track.

So you're saying that you wont help create a future with smart people? With what you just said it sounds like you want a family to pay more health insurance AND higher taxes. Doing all of this while feeding, clothing and paying for a roof for these children to live under. The strain on a family is much harder then a single person, so why do you not want to help them? If you decide you want kids you will want help then but because right now you dont want kids you dont have to help? I dont get it. You can only have it 1 way

I hope you mean "childless", not "single". The two are not the same.

truck,

we may disagree on some issues, but i am right with you on this one. i havent seen your name before, but people here for awhile already know how i want to privatize the entire school system.

i am single, but my opinion would not change if i was married. i do not base my opinions on what is good for me. we, as people, should be able to take ENTIRE RESPONSIBILITY for the kids we make, just like we are expected to take full responsibility for the rest of our lives.

this is what i hate about the liberal/communistic way of thinking - they always want others to take care of their needs, instead of each person taking care of his own needs.

TruckRDJ-

The thing is the society that you live in needs children to continue. Take away the benefits that you wish to take away--and that you received when you were a kid--and there is not future.

Could you imagine a society with a few generations of uneducated kids in America? Who would run the grocery stores of the future? Who will help generate the electricity? Who will manage to do all these things--so as the rest of us privileged who received our education and had our careers and decided to move on there is something to move on too?

Turning it around you might consider the taxes you pay to childrens' education in two more positive ways (1) repaying the education that you were entitled to and (2)and investment so that there is some form of society in the future.

This is going off track, but will address the issue quickly. My parents were responsible citizens. Not only did they pay taxes to support the publc schools, they also sent us to private school.

So I don't see that side of the coin. You're gonna have em' pay for em'.

Since I am getting ready to be married... I would like to know the economic benefits the left and gays keep yammering about?

I know this is off topic so SORRY.

Seriously when I get married I will lose money in taxes. I large chunk. I will be econimically better off now than when married.

Everything changes once you actually have a kid. I am only 26 and have a 4 year old. Me and my wife were not planning on having kids this early but it happened and I wouldn't have it any other way.

The whole conservative/libertarian views on all this are so messed up. Ofcourse you should have to pay property taxes for a school even if you don't have kids there and especially if you're kids are no longer there. There is a wack job in the suburb that I live in that has a dumb ugly handwritten sign in his yard. The sign reads "NO KIDS NO TAXES"....such a freaking eyesore. This guy isn't willing to admit it but if he and others like him didn't pay that freaking taxes then the schools would go to shit. If the schools go to shit then alot of younger people will move out of that community. Guess what...the whole suburb goes to shit then too and that place isn't such a nice place to live anymore. This guy has it good in a nice clean, safe, friendly suburb but doesn't realize what it will turn into if people didn't have to pay the taxes.

Oh I forgot....the world will be so much better off if we stopped paying taxes. What a fucking dreamworld some of you people live in.

We pay too much taxes. The government is raping us, too big and wasteful completely the opposite of what we started 200 years ago. Perhaps that's what he is on about with his sign maybe he does have a clue. The govermnet educational budget this year is over 50 billion. Its many many thousands of dollars per student. I pay a huge property tax that goes to my school district. In addition any extra things the kids do we pay. Add to that there are several levys that have raised the local sales tax to almost 8 percent. 3 of which go to schools. Add to that they get money from the state as well and the city. Next they get money from these huge fucking asshole ugly towers they put up so some cell phone company can make a buck on the backs of US. And they get subsidiaries from education companies for using their shit. So fuck yes I'll bitch as a citizen. The schools are already FUCKED up. The football team was around here just this week begging for money and last month it was a girls group. This shit needs help and if it takes accountability in some way to do it I am all for it. If that means giving me a choice in some way hell yes. We don't even have to stay in our districts here.
