I just put him on ignore. I'll come back to this thread if anyone wants to have a rational discussion.

mems definition of ignore - reply to semis post referring to me 4 days after semi posts, but only half a day after my response to semi.

continue deluding yourself. it is you who is not being rational. however you did finally make the correct decision to leave this thread, since anyone would eventually get tired of having their arguments turned into mincemeat.

i dont care if you are einstein the 2nd, if you try to argue with me with bias, i will turn those arguments into mincemeat.

when you can admit that you have negative feelings about god and christianity, you will take a big step forward for yourself.

amnesia is highly skeptical of there being a god. however he did not argue with a bias. by that i mean, he would not have cared if there was a god. if somehow tomorrow we all learned that god definitely existed, it would not have affected amnesia. he would simply have said something like "i guess i was wrong, and god does exist. so maybe i will go to some happy place when i die here, after all".

you, on the other hand, are not nearly as convinced that god does not exist. but unlike amnesia, you currently have negativity in you regarding those issues. so you hunt like mad for anything that will confirm what you want to believe, while completely ignoring anything that might be contrary to what you want to believe. this is so terribly common in human behavior - so it is not as though you are unique, nor is it hard to detect.

your ridiculously biased attempts regarding the sermon on the mount did you in, as far as revealing your true motivations.

i think what you meant to say was that you will come back when there is someone you can argue with that you have a chance of winning. you have no chance of winning with me, as i dont even find them to be a challenge.

and if i were in your shoes, arguing with a biased approach - you could just as easily make mincemeat of my arguments. that is what happens with biased approaches. they always break down, because the method used was one of avoidance of the truth rather than searching for the truth.

you may learn this someday.

You expect there to be a rational discussion about the existence of God? I mean the whole concept of God is based in ideology and faith which is pretty much pure emotion. This is like debating what was here before the big bang.

That being said, to answer the question "does God exist?", I can answer, I have *NO* friggin idea.

We could still have a rational discussion about that. It's possible to rationally discuss murderous rage without being experiencing murderous rage. Discussing the existence of gods shouldn't be prohibited because any emotional aspect to the issue.

I believe that GOD is a powerful force, but not at all in the likeness of you and me. The whole concept of the Universe and where it began is totally awesome to me but I guess because I am a human being, that can be expected. After all, we don’t use all of our brain’s capacity. But if we did, maybe we could comprehend it better. As humans, we can’t conceive of something without a beginning or end. But, that doesn’t mean that it is not a possibility.

If the Universe began from “nothingness”, then “nothingness” really isn’t “nothingness”. It is something. Where did this spark of life and GOD originate from? Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

In any case, maybe we are not supposed to analyze it. Maybe it is just a case of blind faith and in due time we will find out the answer. It may be very simple, where we are looking for complicated ways to explain it. We may not have the tools to do so at this time.

All I know is that if I am faced with a life-threatening situation, or if I am on my death-bed…I will probably be praying to Him/Her/It/Them/ for comfort. Until then, I will just trust in Karma and the cycle of life that each person creates for themselves. I think that GOD is too busy to deal with my issues. That’s why Karma makes sense to me. We all have free will and can use it in any way we choose, good or bad and in the process reap what we sow....good or bad.

I can’t stomach celebrities and sports figures, etc…that think that GOD is focused on their careers and how well they are doing i.e. “I would like to thank GOD”. People are suffering all over the world and you think that GOD made you win that Academy Award or the World Series. Give me a break.

I think that GOD does exist but, he/she is not all that wrapped up in each one of us the way we would like him/her to be. We might just be the equivalent of an ant farm or an aquarium in the greater scheme of things.

Default There is no God.

1) When you get knocked out, do you remember anything? (no soul)
2) Anesthesia knocks you out (you're simple biology).
3) You share 99.9% of your DNA with chimps... do chimps have souls??

this logic makes one incorrect assumption, and one misunderstanding of a definition.

the incorrect assumption - that the existence of god is dependent on us having a soul. while most of the major religions state that we are high on god's list, it is not a necessary condition for god to exist.

the misunderstanding - the soul, as far as i know, has never been touted as experiencing anything within our body, or within this universe, for that matter. it is not really something that we can conceptualize, but we know that it is not of this world, so it makes no sense to ask if the soul remembers anything. remembering is done by the brain, which is a part of our local body.

now i am not saying that we do or dont have a soul - just reiterating the concept of the soul.

if this comment is trying to negate the presence of a soul, then my above comments are appropriate.

the soul (if it exists) is not supposed to be a biological part of the body, so anaesthesia would have no effect on it.

Apparently, China, one of the world's most oppressive totalitarian communist nations DOES believe in the soul. How can the soul be believed in without religion?

hi cr,

that is pretty wild. since i know very little about the ins and outs of china, i dont know the specific reason. but i doubt if the govt really has any stance at all on reincarnation. most govts just care about finance and power, which of course means control of the people.

i suspect that this ruling/concern has some sort of link to control over the people.
