This has probably been discussed but I don't feel like reading 70 pages.

I have recently been attending church because of a friends invitation. I return because it is interesting, however, I am skeptical of what they consider the truth.

I find most of the historical factors to be very believable (there was a guy named Jesus, he was crucified, etc.), but it is when you throw in some of the stories like Noah's Ark, Jesus rising from the dead, and supposedly a horror that will be unleashed onto the world one day that I get a little iffish. I don't want to call them lies, for they very well could be true.

I honestly do want to believe in this stuff, but for some reason I find it hard.

hi siso,

if i can offer a suggestion - do not honestly want to believe in this stuff. nor honestly want to disbelieve in it.

try to make logical decisions based upon the information that you have. but first sort this "information" into categories, such as what can be proven, what can not be proven, but seems likely because of some corroborating (sp?) evidence, what does not seem likely, etc.

dont expect to have any 100% sure answers about it. and dont try to believe any particular thing, because you will most likely allow your decision making to have biases that are not supported by the evidence.

there is nothing wrong with admitting that you dont know something, and may never know it. but something can be gleaned, imo, from the mere process of attempting to become more knowledgeable about the question of god.

it was not until i did the above, that i was able to lose my brainwashing, and look at things with an unbiased viewpoint. this allowed me to do what i am suggesting to you - understand the relevance and accuracies of various "facts".

best of luck to you in your search.

Try to imagine that it doesn't have the weight of history and mass acceptance behind it. Would you believe it if billions of other people hadn't been believing it for thousands of years?

Things to think about...
What do you believe happens after death? Is that the end, or do you believe there is life afterwards? And who would you find there in Heaven? God? Jesus?

It's normal and healthy to question things that you hear in church or stories you read in the Bible (particularly the old testament). But, belief in the resurrection of Jesus is pretty much the central idea in Christianity. Without this belief, Jesus is essentially just a prophet, and not our Lord and savior.

I hope you continue to give it a try, SISO.

Does God exist?

It all is a matter of faith. God exists if you believe Him to exist. God doesn't exist if you do not believe him to exist.

If you believe God exists, many things are answered for you and you will not question as many aspects of life. If you do not believe God exists, then there are a lot of questions to be answered!

This question is far deeper than a simple "yes" or no; the answer to this question is the answer to many questions.

Does God exist?
Yes.
Who created the Universe?
God.
Who created people?
God.
Is evolutionary theory true?
People evolved based on God's Vision.

------------------------------
OR...
Does God exist?
No.
Who created the Universe?
-------
Who created people?
-------
Is evolutionary theory true?
Things evolved, but from what? What started it all?
What started it all?
-------

See?

That's right, kids! If questions hurt your think bone, if you don't have time for research, or if knowing things is a burden, then God is for you! God is the convenient answer to all questions!

Where did the universe come from? God!
Who left this roller skate on the stairs? God!
What makes the blood move around inside me? God!
What made Uncle Harold climb the tower and kill 27 pedestrians? God!

So throw away those textbooks! Burn down the library! All you need is God!

it is amazing to me how people can be so dumb as to continue to allow these sorts of people to become popular - it is always about finances.

this guy was on 60 minutes. i guess there is a sucker born every minute.

He is popular because his message is generally positive and uplifting. But, yes, be wary of his preaching of the "prosperity" bible.

totally incorrect. our belief in the existence of god has nothing at all to do with the answer to the question "does god exist".

it is possible to believe in the existence of god, without requiring said god to be the reason for all that happens.

to say that there is no god - is just as foolish, since you dont know anything about the truth of that statement. which shows that one is just as biased and non-truth seeking as the person who claims to know that god does exist.

the teeter-totter goes up and down. when you find the middle ground, and admit that you dont know either way, that is when you can start one's journey toward seeking whatever truth one can find.

one cant find truth with a biased mind.
