The Ipod hardware is top notch! The Ipod software is complete SHIT. If there was another way to get the mp3's to the thing other than using that damn itunes I would buy a nano in an instant. Problem is the itunes software is so terriable I can't imagine paying anything for it. Apple seriously needs to rethink their software bundle for the ipod.

I'm not much into Ipods, but I'm see some of my co-workers owning them and they let me checked it out. Now I like them and want one of these days, whenever I get the money to buy one!

I have a little higher opinion of iTunes than do most around here apparently. It's easy to organize by Artist, Song Title, Album Title, or Genre. And with the added podcasts that makes it even better. And I take the same attitude with the iPod that I do with XM and Sirius.....

Beats the hell out of AM/FM.

One thing I do wish the iPod had is the ability to upload to iTunes FROM the iPod (helpful for when I buy a new laptop after the Intel announcement, but there's ways around that too).

Having tried a few IPODs, I too have no interest to get one. To me, having a new playlist at anytime is more attractive than listening to the same songs that I have at home, buying more, and listening to recorded content all the time doesn't really seem appealing.

I will say it's nice for having your entire CD collection in a little player instead of having to drag a CD (or more if you have a changer) out to play. All my CDs are in boxes downstairs, my Home Stereo is seeing more action since I got on XM.

So far, the iPod fits my real needs, which is finding anything but the local station inside my office. I can't set up Sirius at work, and I never bother with most of the music channels on it anyway, so the iPod holds enough video and podcasts to last me until I get to the car.

I had a Dell DJ with an FM tuner....bleh. Never ever will go back to an MP3 player that relies on Windows no matter what features its has, constant lockups...DJ explorer and Win Media would both load and lock up.

Now give me my video iPod with live Sirius, I would be happy.

jon,

i ran into some software at the store that allows you to upload your ipod into itunes. it was pretty reasonable - i think about $30. it also did a lot of other stuff. i dont recall the name of it - but if you went to best buy or circuit city, i suspect you will find at least one software utility product for ipods.

i dont know what people dont like about itunes. it seems pretty good to me. for those of you who have complaints, could you list some of them specifically ?

Yeah, iPods suck. So do anti-lock brakes, air conditioning, sliced bread and cordless phones. Why would I ever want to carry around more than 30 songs. Choice sucks. Progress is for hippie, 'Merica-hatin' lib'rals.

iPods rock. Satellite radio rocks. Admission: I haven't touched my iPod since I got my Sirius radio. The technologies can co-exist. You don't have to be a hater on one to love the other. I love both.

To say an .mp3 player "isn't for me" is one thing. To say that the concept is flawed and that they all suck is quite another. Just like Mac haters, most people who hate iPods have never really used one.

Then again, different strokes. If a $50, generic .mp3 player floats your boat, God bless ya. They're just <ready for this> ...not for me.
