I just joined and happy to help. I did the SETI @ Home thing in the past but this is for a far greater cause.

How do I get a SBS folding team image for the bottom of my posts?

Thanks!

Don

I've ran a few of these distributed computing programs in the past so I figured i'd run this one and help out a little. About 1AM,Installed it on my wife's PC and mine. Then I start hearing a faint buzzing tone. Is it because my processor is maxed? So I shut off my PC but still hear it. Turn off the Tv, still there. I figure it must be the wife's PC, so I shut it down but the buzz is still there and seems to be getting louder. At least now I know it's not the PCs. I'm just about to start powering off my router and VOIP TA and the other peripherals when I realize the sound isn't even coming from the office! It's coming from my daughter's room. She set off her bed-wetting alarm and instead of getting up, she just laid there covering her ears with the alarm screaming.

I've got 2 more PCs that it will go on tonight.

All that work just to find out you need a hearing aid....

What the hell, I'm in. I've done SETI at home before. I actually discovered an alien race, but it turns out they were just Texans. Maybe I'll have more luck with this!

I've had a few hardware problems crop up using this program. Especially on older computers. It does indeed work your processor in ways that it hasn't been worked before. If you don't have good heat sinks or weak fans it will tell on you very quickly. I've actually had some PC that would just keep rebooting as they got too hot. I've also had some PC throttling down to stop from burning up.

I've have up to 22 PC running this software, but I think I probably have a few that just can't run it until I upgrade or replace them. The other things you have to watch for is Microsofts Updates, these darn things update your computer in the middle of the night and reboots, so now you have a computer sitting at a log in screen doing no work.

The program keeps shutting itself down on my PC. I'll see the systray icon but when I go to click on it, it disappears. Been running fine on my wife's PC and it is slower and older... Hmmm...

I will second the observation that Laptops run hot. My IBM runs very hot while the folding software is running.

For Casual Fan, Maybe this can help discover why Texans are genetically the same as aliens...

I had to quit the Folding Team. My computer overheated last Friday, and now my battery drains at an alarming rate, even while it's plugged in. Sorry...:\

I am running it on 3 machines, one of them is a dual xeon machine which is just sitting there doing nothing.

I need to figure out how to get it to do double the work on the dual xeon machine since the other processor is just sitting there bored.

Mine works until I try to open the porgram to see what it is doing. It then freezes and I have to close the program and reopen. (Win XP )If I just leave it alone in the tray and mouse over it, it is working on the task. Any ideas

Yes, I have a couple of computers at the office that does this. I find it generally means you have a weak video card. In fact the two machines I have that do this both have video built into the motherboards. Usually video build into the motherboard isn't as good as a stand alone video card plugged into a AGP or even PCI slot.
