Default Anyone else ready to throw out the telephone?

Seems the only calls I get are telemarketers anyway. Anyone else just give up on this form of communication?

Sign up with Donotcall.gov
It's not perfect -- you'll still get calls from non-profit groups and politicians, but it should eliminate other telemarketers from calling you.

Nah, I'm talking about just not using the phone anymore. I don't care. If you need me, send an IM or DRIVE OVER HERE AND GIMMIE WHAT I GOT COMING.

For real, unless someone has cash or something of value, do I really need a HEY HOW YOU DOING call everyday? Every month?

How am I doing? Why? I'll be doing just fine after I hang up this phone!!!!

I've had cellphones for 10years+ now and the sound quality has gotten worse and worse. I just don't care anymore. Don't call me or I'll get my "sister Alice" on the phone.....

.......Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Maybe I WILL keep it and just answer the phone with Alice or Riley Martin. haven't done that in years (with Arnold S.)

Man, I hear you.
I'm not much for the phone either. I'd rather communicate by e-mail or in person.

Well, let's do it. We'll set up to hit these people with our newest phone operator CRAZY ALICE.

Now, how do we hook up the PC to the phone?

I threw out my telephone long ago and replaced it with something from PC Heaven.

I guess you just fell for that "digital quality" sound lie again.

Why are you getting all these calls, even with a cell phone?

Me and my g/f have used sticktly cell phones for over 2 years now, first with T-Mobile and now with Sprint, and we haven't gotten the first telemarketer or political call.

I use a cell phone exclusively, the only reason I have one at all is for emergency purposes. I use maybe 20 minutes a month on my plan. What I really want is one of those Blackberrys. I would probably use my data plan more than anything else.

When your friends and family are scattered throughout the country, it's kinda hard to drive over and say hey, since it could be 1,200 miles. I use T-mobile for my cell and I think the sound quality is pretty good.

I just have the bare minium needed for DSL on the landline and thats the 90 minutes a month outgoing local calls . An answering machine screens inoming calls that slip by donotcall.com and hangs up on them. My main phone is my cell which goes with me where i go and even it isn't used that much as most of my commications are via email. The cell covers a few that don't have internet access.

I am with ya on this one. I have switched to Vonage...alot cheaper but I still can't stand talking on the phone. Especially to hear people bitch and moan about their lives...or to hear them talking to whoever is in the room with them at the time.

I have a cellphone also and maybe use 10minutes a month...its used only for when Im out running errands and if the kids school needs to get a hold of me or if the car breaks down or something along those lines.

I would love to get rid of the home phone altogether but of course thats not realistic.

I'm using viatalk.com as my VOIP service, and they make the telemarketing thing bearable again. I was still getting a few calls after signing up on donotcall.gov, but the viatalk phone service allows me to blacklist certain phone numbers. I've done that when the occasional telemarketer has gotten through, and they're now treated to a busy signal each time they try to call.

VOIP still has it's occasional glitches, but if you have a cell phone as a backup, the price and feature combination is unbeatable!
