I agree with you. KISS was more influential than Chic, IMHO.
Van Halen definitely deserves the honor -- should have been voted in last year.

Chic is among a list of POTENTIAL nominees. They haven't made it in, and won't in my prediction. They're just eligible this year, that's all.

Now, seeing a reunited Van Halen get in will be worth watching. As will seeing R.E.M. get in (with all four original members). Both bands were huge influences back in the early '80s.

I'm not really a fan of KISS, or at least their music. I'll admit that in the sixth grade (in the late '70s) I was a member of the KISS fan club. But their music hasn't really stood the test of time for me. But you're entitled to your opinion of course.

Just because you don't like one band on a list of potential nominees doesn't mean you should say the whole thing sucks. There isn't a person alive who will agree with 100% of the choices. Don't take it that seriously; just enjoy it when a band gets in that you like.

I think the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame sucks because of all the previous choices thet've made.

BTW, what the hell is the RNRHOF doing in Cleveland? Rock was created in MEMPHIS!

If Van Halen gets in it'll be interesting to see who else will show up other than Eddie Van Halen, Alex, and Wolfgagng.

This is from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame wiki...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_an...ion_and_museum

Quote:
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation was created in 1983. The groundbreaking ceremony was June 7, 1993, with Pete Townshend and Chuck Berry doing the honors. The museum opened on September 2, 1995 in a building designed by I. M. Pei. During early discussions on where to build the museum, the Foundation's board considered the Cuyahoga River. Ultimately, the chosen location was in downtown Cleveland by Lake Erie, just east of Cleveland Browns Stadium and the Great Lakes Science Center. Cleveland lobbied to be chosen, citing the facts that one-time Cleveland disc jockeyAlan Freed is widely credited with promoting the new genre (and the term) of "rock and roll", and that Cleveland was the location of the first rock and roll concert. After a petition drive that was signed by 600,000 fans favoring Cleveland, and a USA Today poll which Cleveland won by 100,000 votes, the hall of fame board voted to build the museum in Cleveland.

one name that i happened to see was not there is linda ronstadt.

as she would be a shoe-in, i am assuming that she is not there because she is still considered to be an active performer ? just what are the requirements ?

Eligibility starts 25 years after the release of a group or artist's first record.

From Wikipedia:
Currently, groups or individuals are qualified for induction 25 years after the release of their first record. Nominees should have demonstrable influence and significance within the history of rock and roll. Four categories are recognized: Performers, Non-Performers, Early Influences, and since 2000, Sidemen.

gosh, you mean linda is eligible, and not elected ? i cant believe such an omission.

her first hit with the stone poneys was in the late 60s. but she was by herself by the early 70s. in fact, the eagles was her backup band before they went on their own.

Smile I So Totally Agree With You!!!

I don't understand how they come to pick the ones they pick?? I'm a big fan of the 50's music and you can count them on just over two hands, never mind the girl groups.

But the real question, WHEN will the great "Moody Blues" name be picked? They have been in almost every era from the 60's right up to the 80's, (if I'm wrong, then I have to do my homework more carefully).

Does anyone know how they come to name the groups each time?

By the way "gymeejet" that was a really cool Post, lots of nice info, thank you!!

As I was Posting "7Aaron", and "Semipenguin" gave some really cool insight to the "Hall Of Fame" thanks!!!!!!

i dont know what qualifications they use, either.

the moody blues is a very different type of band. sometimes that can get you in, other times keeps you out. they werent a big hits oriented band, and they did a lot of classical type of music. not to say that it wasnt good. it may just have been too un-rock-and-roll, such that the electors look away from them.

but there is nothing about linda ronstadt that i can think of that would keep her out - unless of course it is just political. she had lots and lots of hits, has one of the best female voices ever, and has done all sorts of music. although i am most fond of her earliest country-rock stuff.

in 1990, she was ranked #52 on billboard's top artists, so a huge commercial success, as well.

dee dee,

i love the 50s best, as well. name a couple of artists that you think should be in there from that era. it seems to be that they did get the biggest ones.

Smile "so Many To Pick From"

My favorite would have to be the "The Harptones" but I think they were Inducted in 2002, but I'm not sure. One of the lead singers with The Harptones and so many of the groups like "The Five Keys" which I don't think have been Inducted was the great Willie Winfield, his voice was like velvet.

There was a group named the "Diablos" also known as "Nolan Strong and the Diablos", (picture on the left) truly a must to hear if your really a 50's fan. One of there songs "The Wind" and my favorite "Since You're Gone". The great Bob "T" use to play it for me when ever I requested. He is really missed.

There are so many girl groups that are awesome, and only a handfull are Inducted.

I totally agree with you about Linda, she was and is still great!!!

Now it's your turn, who is your pick??

to be honest, i never followed it much. i remember when the first 10 were picked. i hate james brown, and not too high on ray charles. the other 8 i liked. i just dont like blues and jazz, because for the most part, there is little or no melody.

after that, i dont recall much about others being elected. so i will do a search. being that it is "rock and roll", i dont know if they include pop artists.

connie francis, pat boone, hermans hermits, carpenters, neil diamond - are not in it, unless i missed them.

we are coming at it from a much different perspective. i am thinking mostly hits and commercial success, while you were citing bands that were from the very early stages that did not have a lot of commercial success.

i see dc5 is up this year. i think the hermits should get in before dc5. but dc5 is a little bit more of a harder rock and roll. and being the above 5 plus linda have not yet made it, i am thinking that popular artists are not as apt to get in.

i am assuming there is no such thing as a pop hall of fame ?
