Sorry that you had bad luck, but that is not typical.
Actually it will start in months but you may not notice it right away. I bet if you would put your older tvs next to a new one you would notice a difference.

I paid $999 with no tax (SC has tax free today and tomorrow) for the 42 Panasonic Plasma from Best Buy, I can't wait until we are in the new house so I can get it all set up.

We also got a HD Dual Tuner DVR (200 hours std def, 30 hours HD) for $299 less the $200 (upgrade to HD offer from BB & Directv), so it was $99. Sweet.

Hey TX WJ, let me get off topic for a bit and ask you a quick question that I'm not sure of. I saw you say that you are a sat TV subscriber also. Does sat TV not have Video On Demand or DVR for recording instead of using a TiVO? I know cable TV has this.

Seems like people would be getting away from TiVOs and would start using the DVR from their sat/cable provider. I don't use either one but if I did, I think I would use the DVR from my cable company instead of going out and buying a TiVO.

You can also use the Video On Demand feature from your provider also and watch any movie you want at any time. Sooner or later seems like this would prevail over using a TiVO I would think? Just wondering.

I have two Direct TV DVR's, one standard Def and the other HD.

Things that I like about them:

Two tuners allows you to record two channels at the same time.

Things that I don't like:

It's not a Tivo. Tivo software is the best, easy to start and stop. Better guide, Thumbs Up and Down ratings (helps Tivo decide what other programs you might like that Tivo records). Tivo also has key word wishlist that allows you to record all the programs that pertain to your keyword. Like Dallas Cowboys will record all Cowboys games, and Dallas Cowboys specials. You can also do director and actor wishlists.

Tivo Series 2 (all you can get now) are networkable. This allows you to transfer programs between Tivo's, play muisc from your computer on your TV, view Photos etc.

Tivo rocks. There is NOTHING like it. Plus it has the best remote ever.

Cable / Satellite DVR's are the FM to Tivo's satellite radio.

I'll be getting my 160hr HD for my REPLAYTV. See, rusty don't watch commercials. Rusty don't FF commercials. Replay jumps em so rusty doesn't have to.

BTW I also like my 1080I 50in CRT Projection. Best picture you can get IMO.

I hate DirecTV. They are the biggest rip off's. I paid 300 dollars just to cancel my service I hated it so much. My cable box (DVRHD) is way better then my sat box (DVRHD). With my cable box I can record up to 3 things at once. Sat box I can only record up to 2 and I had to have 2 lines coming from my dish. Pain in the ass having to have 1 cable enter my house per box. Cable box only needs 1 feed. Also Cable has in demand, the greatest thing ever made. I wouldn’t recommend DirecTV to anyone even if it was free.

I've been a DirecTV subscriber since it first became available in 1994. I've also had DirecTiVo since it became available.

As soon as TiVo makes a deal with Comcast so that Comcast DVRs are running TiVo software I'm switching. For a very long time DirecTV had a much better pricing scheme and much more content. I think they still have more content but cable has a lot more HD programming and if I combine it with VOIP and High speed Internet access the pricing isn't significantly different.

I currently have a DirecTiVo and a DirecTV branded DVR. I hate the DirecTV DVR. TiVo is really miles ahead of other OEM DVR OSes and, as TX said, the remote is dead simple and completely intutive. I just wish my series 1 TiVo hadn't died, I had it completely hacked the way I wanted it.
