Default New Company Car Time

I got an email Friday telling me that it was time to order a new car. My current car has 55,000 miles on it (2005 Chevy Malibu V-6) and they like to replace them with between 70,000 to 90,000 miles.

They say that I should expect my car in March so I will have more than 70,000 miles by then for sure.

They pay for the gas, upkeep and insurance but they limit our choices, in fact last time I had a choice of color and that was it.

Here are my choices, all of the cars are 4 doors with V-6, Automatic, Tilt, Cruise, Air Condtioning, Power Windows, Locks and Mirrors. All have at least a AM/FM with CD player. All have Front and side airbags, and anti lock brakes.

2007 Chevrolet Mailbu LS V-6, the car also has Auto On/Off Headlamps

2007 Ford Fusion SE V-6, the car also has Fog Lights, Alloy Wheels, CD 6 disc in dash MP3 capable, I-pod ready, Audio Controls on steering wheel, power drivers seat

2007 Chrysler Sebring, Power Drivers Seat, CD player with Ipod Jack

I already order my car but was wondering what you think?

Ford's are my favorite, so I'd go with the Fusion...

Besides, both Ford's and Chrysler's are partners with Sirius...

A relative of mine has a 2006 Merc Milan, same thing as the Fusion, and loves it.

I'd go for the Sebring on the looks.
But Chrysler loves to make cars that appeal to the eyes, but are cheap to the touch.
Pass on the Malibu (unless you want to be stuck with XM!!!)

I owned a Malibu for awhile and liked it quite a bit. However, I think this time I would go with the Sebring.

AAArgh, it's companies like yours that keep Detroit making these marvels of mediocrity! My sub-compact import has more front and rear legroom than any of these mid-sized vehicles!

Don't like the Malibu, my buddy has one as his company car.
Don't like the Fusion, it's just so blah blah blah plain (3rd Gen Taurus)
The Sebring looks OK but based on my experiences with Dodge and co, I find it risky to buy them.

SInce you don't have to be concerned with resale or out-of-warranty expenses, I would probably pick the Fusion just on the interior.

I am just glad that my company provides for a car. I would hate to put 50,000 miles a year on my car, pay for gas, insurance, maintenance etc. Would I rather be driving an Acura TSX, Honda Accord or a Toyota Camry? You bet, but I don’t want to pay for it.

As many of you know, I am a fan of Mopars. I have owned many cars in my time, and I have had good luck with Chrysler products. I looked at the new Sebring, and it was ok. The car felt a little narrow plus we are getting a base model which would lack the fog lights and other features that I would like.

I have a Malibu now, and I can tell you the only positive that I can say about the car is the fact that it gets 26-28 mpg. The car has 55,000 miles and I have already had to replace the steering shaft and rack and pinion. The car will not start after you let it sit for a few days, and the dealer says that everything checks out fine. The power steering will shut off for a split second when you accelerate hard up an entrance ramp and the information center will alert you with a tone and it will read power steering. Two different Chevrolet dealers say that they were unable to duplicate the issue, it does it every time you hammer it up a ramp.

That leaves me with the Ford Fusion. I have read all the owner comments I could on this car on forums and car portals. The car is wider than my current car and wider than the Sebring. That is important to me since I am 6’ 4” and the Malibu is a bit tight.

I like the fact that the Fusion has Fog Lights, Audio Controls on the steering wheel, Auxiliary input on the radio and a MP3 capable in dash CD changer. I should get the car in a few months and should be in it for 18 months or so.

I am surprised that the Sebring did as well as it did on our little poll. I went back and forth but I decided to go with the Fusion this time.

Thanks for the input, I feel better about my decision.

I think most of us went purely on looks. It is hard to make a final judgement until you get behind the wheel. Good luck with the Fusion. There is a good chance that your mirrors and shifter were manufactured here in West Michigan. And, Lord knows, Ford thanks you for the business.
