Default Bit Torrent

Anybody use a bit torrent client to download (non-copyrighted ) music and video?

I love it. It's the best thing since sliced bread. And I really like sliced bread, mind you.

bitlord...

my favorite bit torrent sites are

www.demonoid.com

great sight to find alot of obscure old tv shows, especially british tv that isn't available here in the states.

www.dimeadozen.org

great for finding high quality live concerts.

I've never been a Bit Torrent user. I can only remember using it once and that was to download a dashboard for an Xbox. I never really understood the concept of Bit Torrent. I'm not sure why, just never grasped the idea.

It's more a means to an end than an end in itself. My wife and I miss a lot of TV shows that we like because we have kids, so we get them off TVTorrents.com and watch them when it's convenient. It's like Tivo without the fees.

As far as the concept, you're basically downloading tiny bits of the file you want from lots of other people who all have the same file. You aren't hogging any one person's bandwidth that way. This is in contrast to downloading an entire 175 MB video from a website and hogging a lot of bandwidth from that one site. You also share the files you've already downloaded with the other folks on the torrent.

The end result is that the site that is facilitating the bit torrent only has to keep track of who has what pieces of the file, and not manage massive downloads from potentially hundreds of users. The user's PC's are doing all the work of uploading and downloading amongst one other.
