Default Lamar Hunt Dead at 74

RIP

DALLAS (AP) -- Lamar Hunt, the pro sports visionary who owned the
Kansas City Chiefs and came up with the term "Super Bowl," died Wednesday night. He was 74.
Hunt, a founder of the American Football League and one of the driving forces behind the AFL-NFL merger, died at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas of complications from prostate cancer, Chiefs spokesman Bob Moore said.
Hunt battled cancer for several years and was hospitalized the day before Thanksgiving with a partially collapsed lung. Doctors discovered that the cancer had spread, and Hunt had been under heavy sedation since last week.

Don't forget he was also very instrumental in the soccer world here in the states as well. Originally one of the founders of the NASL and later the driving force behind the MLS. He formed my beloved Columbus Crew and was responsible for getting their stadium built, the first soccer only stadium in the US. The MLS' highest honor is the Lamar Hunt Cup. He will be missed.

Question Hunt brothers?

Was he related to the Hunt brothers who tried to corner the silver market a few decades back?

Bunker Hunt was a prominent owner/breeder or race horses. He wasn't above mingling with the masses at the racetrack.

Any relation?

Last night's Monday Night Football game, Al Michaels asked how many people would not be where they are today, without Lamar Hunt founding the AFL.

John Madden raised his hand and said he would be one of them. He also said that everytime he saw Mr. Hunt, he thanked him!

He was a classy sportsman, and will be missed!!!

Big loss for pro sports...I hope the Chiefs will end up with another owner of the same caliber and not the Boy Wonder like us Redskins fans have had to endure since Jack Kent Cooke's passing.

Pretty sure he was their younger brother. Took a much smaller position but did participate. I asked the same question when they announced it last night. My wife gave me "THAT" look. (you know the look. How do you know that and why does it matter?)
