TBS is going to play A Christmas Story for 24 hours straight. Now I ask you, are you going to watch this movie for 24 hours straight?

Or any for that matter?

No, although I caught some of it in the past. These days I refuse to catch it in full screen, edited for content, plastered with network bugs and with commercial interruptions. I'll stick with my DVD two-discer.

Besides, twenty four hours of any one Christmas flick is a bit much, IHMO. Although if it were around 12 or so different Christmas movies, I might consider it and would probably include:

-The Ref
-Bad Santa
-Gremlins
-A Christmas Story (once!)
-Die Hard (maybe part 2 as well)
-Black Christmas (original)
-Silent Night, Deadly Night
-It's a Wonderful Life
-Scrooged
-National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
-The Nightmare Before Christmas
-Lethal Weapon
-Christmas Evil
-Miracle on 34th Street (original)

That might actually be fun.

I might be the only person on the planet that doesn't like this movie. I was young when it first came out, my parents took me see it, and I remember hating it. So, I still don't like A Christmas Story.
It must be good, though. Everyone I know loves it.

Where has BAD SANTA been this year. My favorite holiday movie. So many good one liners.

Which version: the theatrical, unrated, or director's cut?

That's probably my absolute favorite Christmas film. I haven't caught the new director's cut version yet, but I hear the ending is different.

Bad Santa is one of the greatest movies of all time. Seems pointless to put it on network TV though. I'll probably watch it on DVD tonight.

I rented it when it came out on DVD and it was actually "badder santa." I'm not sure if this is the directors cut or just the unrated version but yes, from what I understand, there are some differences. I know Bernie Mac meets a different end in the version I saw than the version released in theaters. Also, the ending I think is different but I can't be sure.

"santa, why are you sick"
"because I loved a woman that wasn't clean."

"I beat up some kids today. I feel really good about myself."

just heard on the radio that xmas basically had died out between 1790 and 1835. during those years, the new york times made absolutely no mention of christmas.

they said what brought it back was the story of scrooge (i think they said charles dickens). some time in the 1840s.

to me, they can get rid of most of christmas. people detest going shopping with half of the planet there beside them - yet they still do it. xmas would be a lot better if we got rid of the gift-giving aspect of it, and spent more time with our family, and helping others.

Christmas was originally banned in America. The puritans considered it a pagan holiday.

Wasn't "Badder Santa" the sequel? Or did I imagine that...

Anyway, the beauty of "A Christmas Story" is that you can just turn it on and start watching it anywhere.

Another great holiday film is "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles," but that's a Thanksgiving movie. I mean, PreChristmas movie. PreChristmas is the holiday that begins the five or so weeks of Christmas shopping.
