I still love my Rio Karma. It's a little bulky and out of date but it's dead easy to use the Rio Music Manager is acceptable. It doesn't show up as a removable drive and it won't support any DRM'd files like audible but I do use it all the time, and the sound is great.

I have the 30gig video ipod. I have no probs with it. Get all my music from Lime-Wire. Have no trouble filling my library up with the mp3's I also have a program to shrink dvd's and convert them to my ipod to take movies with me.

I have owned 4 different mp3 players and finally this year went with an apple based on the fact that it has become the standard and that companies are making more products that are compatible with iPods.

I would have liked it if I could have plugged my 20 gig creative Zen directly into my Alpine head unit with a 30 dollar cable and control all functions of the mp3 player directly through the head unit, but I can't. I can do it with an iPod though. So apple wins.

Funny that the same thing Apple fights in the personal computer space they take advantage of in the DAP market. More 3rd party support, peripherals and market penetration.

BTW: is anyone running rockbox on their iPod?

That is my story too. I had initially bought a Creative Zen Vision:M, but after about 28 days and not even a single solitary speaker system for it or oem connectivity. Enough was enough and I returned it! I really like the Vision:M, but too bad Creative was so slow to support it with decent accessories.

I lucked out and got one of the newer iPods that was released and I've been using it since. I only use it for my older music, generally full albums that you just never hear on XM or SIRIUS. The gapless playback of some of my older albums is just fantastic and that alone makes the iPod worth having. I also use it for Podcast, which all seem to be formatted for use on the iPod. When I had the Vision:M I had to convert just about every Podcast to make it work and that took up way too much time.

In regards to players other than iPod's. the only real advantage is the PlayForSure compatibility and the use of services such as Yahoo To Go or Naspster to Go where you pay a flat fee and get as much music as you want.

Yep and look at how much money they are making because of that. I would have no problem switching from a windows box to a Mac, except that I couldn't use any of my current programs with it. Not a huge deal. I mean whats a few thousand dollars in useless software ?

Think if how much more cash they would have if they opened up their pcs.

What's rockbox ?

Looks a little dodgey to me. I would love to get rid of iTunes, but i will wait until the courts make Apple open the iPods to other media players.
