Default The Best MP3 Player

Okay, technically it would be "digital audio" regardless of MP3, AAC, or whatever...
But anyways, a couple of people in my extended family got the 80gb video iPod for Christmas. I gotta tell you - I always thought of iPods as the trendy but inferior player but I was very impressed by what I saw and heard with this new iPod.
Is there a better one on the market with this kind of storage and video capability?
I currently have a 30gb Creative Nomad Zen Xtra. I like it but it's getting a little old now, it's a little bulky, can't play videos, doesn't have a color screen, has only a 6 hour battery life, has limited accessories available, does not appear to Windows as a removable drive...etc...so I think it might be time to upgrade to something new.

Anyone have a preference?

Errr...that review basically says that the AV700 stinks.

That being said, I HAVE been looking at Archos players lately and am leaning in that direction.
I like the fact that I can view pdf files with them - I've been looking for something to read my Oracle manuals while on the go.
The Archos 604 with WiFi looks pretty cool, too...but is only 30GB.
The 504 comes in an 80GB flavor so that's something to think about as well.

Check out the iPod refurbs on the Apple web site. They offer those with full warranties at great prices, really great prices.

It's become very popular to criticize the iPod these days but I love it. You just can't beat iTunes' great user-interface. Is Steve Jobs a douche for making it difficult to transfer videos not purchased from his iTunes store? Of course he is. Is cheap foreign labor assembling the iPods? Yes -- just like all the other digital players. But in the end, the iPod still sets the standard.

I've been looking at a new mp3 player too. I just picked up a new 2nd gen ipod shuffle for my daily cardio routines, its great for what I need it for, super small and light, holds up to 250 songs, just great for exercising, I just hit the autofill button on itunes and it randomly selects all the songs and throws it on the shuffle. I will eventually pick up a regular player, probably get a nano though, as I don't need the crazy 30+ gig. I'll keep my music on my computer till I need it, I don't need to store my entire collection on the player.

Well put, and quite accurate W.E.

There is no program better than iTunes and no MP3 player better than the iPod.

However, if you choose to get an iPod wait until the Mac World keynote (Jan 9th) just in case a new iPod is announced.

Ok explain why my cousin cant get non ipod purchased songs EASILY into his Itunes program and onto the ipod then?
Why does the itunes program run three programs all the time and eat up precious memory when the ipod isnt even connected?
Ipodservice, etc (I closed this and it does nothing)
Its mediocre at best.
That and I wouldnt buy anything with those type of buttons on it,like a touch microwave ,they wear out and are planned Obsolecense to me.
Im still using my neo jukebox with an add in 100 gig hard drive,it works perfect amd everything is replaceable.Rather have the Archos ,but this hasnt died yet.

I cannot say what his problem is but i do this all the time and cannot imagine anything easier you download it and add it. Takes two seconds, itunes gets the track names and the cover art for you. anybody can do it.

i have a 30gb and an 80gb ipod both full, and my only complaint is they dont make them bigger [yet]. battery life is excellent device interface is best in the industry and itunes has the best user interface of any music software ive seen.

these are services and occupy < 6mb which is paged out practically at all times while the program is inactive. my notebook on which itunes runs has a total 46 such services running when no "programs" are running - there is nothing harmful or unusual about it.

I love itunes, its very simple to use. If you ask me it would be difficult to make it easier to use and download music.

Just a guess, but your cousin evidently hasn't a clue how to use iTunes. This is the most simply and well thought out program out there today for managing MP3's. Basically it is drag and drop, automatically moves them to your iTunes directory and about 98% of the time finds the artwork for it.

Those 3 little programs that run in the background doesn't use up enough resources to amount to anything... If you are so concerned, I'd guess you either have an old computer or you have a computer that simply doesn't have enough memory on it to begin with.

If you don't like Apple or the iPod just say so, but these things you've come up with in my opinion are nonsense.

This is what I'm thinking too. I rip my CDs through iTunes and then sync them to my iPod nano with no problems.

As for the topic at hand, you can't go wrong with iPod. But like SISO said, wait until January 9th for the Macworld Keynote before buying. I think we are in for a big surprise from Apple.
