Default Apple Announces - iPhone, Apple TV and New Airport Extreme

So we have the iPhone coming in June

$499 - 4GB
$599 - 8GB

http://www.apple.com/iphone/

I must say that I have a lot of desire to have this phone. But looking at cingular. I can't say I am much of a fan. The base plan for 900 min is $60 a month plus unlimited data is $40 a month so $600 for the phone and an extra $100 a month. It makes me not really want this amazing device so much anymore.

The Apple TV former iTV

Well this comes out in Feb for $299 which is basically a cool media center type device. It's front row for your TV without the MacMini. Now if you are invested in iTunes Media this is the way to go. I am totally in love with this device and I like the whole concept of everything a la carte that iTunes offers for TV shows.

If iTunes had HBO and Showtime it would be a done deal and I would cancel my cable TV. Has a 40GB HDD, HDMI, Component, 720p Video and grabs photos off your networked PC's and Mac's and music from iTunes and all that stuff over your network.

Totally cool device if you ask me.

Also Apple updated their Wireless Airport Extreme in a new form factor and supports 802.11n which is also on all the current intel mac's.

I was hoping to see a Cinema Display with an iSight, The Octo Core Mac Pro and iLife 07 and iWork 07.

I plan on buying the Apple TV when it comes out. But the phone is a little weary at the moment. If I could just migrate my Sprint Palm Treo 700p to a Sprint iPhone with the EVDO over the edge I would totally do it.

But I have my reservations of the slower EDGE.

I was truly disappointed in the MacWorld keynote. iTV, now AppleTV, we knew about several months ago, and iPhone, while cool, shouldn't be the only other thing they talk about. It also has its faults: tied to one carrier, not 3G, and only 8GB of memory in the upgraded, $600 version? That is nothing. I think it would have been better to see the phone with twice as much memory, sold unlocked(even if it's another hundred or two more), and have iChat.

The big thing that bugs me is that with the 3 things Apple is 'debuting' today, not one of them will actually be available today, or even this month.

I will really be ticked off if iLife/iWork '07 require Leopard to work, and won't be out until April/May with the Leopard debut.

I was hoping they would have released leopard today trumping Vista by two weeks. I am holding off on getting the MacBook Pro at this point until we get Leopard.

I do like the fact that the iPhone is thinner then my 30GB iPod Video. I really dig the technology behind it and all that fun stuff. I do ponder what 3rd party developers can do with the device in regards to games and other applications that I have the benefit with Palm.

But you have to admit it is pure sex for a phone.

Do you really have to type on the touch screen?

All of the stuff today was really cool, but I wish they would have covered more software related things and the actual computer line.

The iPhone's actual price is fair for what it is, but take into account the 2 year Cingular deal (ugh, why only Cingular!?!?!?!) you have to sign up for and the fees associated with that it's gonna cost you an arm and a leg.

I think the phone is one of the coolest gadgets released in the past year of two. I love the voicemail feature. I'm wary of the screen tapping though, since I have a feeling that you might tap the wrong name by accident, since your finger is so much bigger than the buttons on screen (ditto for the buttons in SMS). Anybody know if it comes with iCal? That would be vital. Also, do you think it would be hard to get it unlocked, if I were to win the lottery and order one to Canada, for example?

I too, wish there could have been a Leapord announcement. I don't know how much longer I can put off getting a new computer (I wanted to wait for new Leapord and new Office...)

The Expo isn't over yet...you don't want them to blow their load the first day, do you?

The iPhone looks sexy, but very pricey. I also like the looks of the updated AirPort Extreme.

And how do you get the names in there in the first place? Touchscreen keyboards are notoriously difficult to use. I can't figure out how they can make one that small for anyone but elves.

Did they demo text entry on it? Is there some cool trick?

You get names into it by using sync from your computer. Kinda like the way you get contacts from your computer to your iPod. I am sure there is a way to add a number on the go when some hottie comes up to you and is like

"I want to give you my number to enrich both our user experiences"

Well maybe not like that. It is totally touch screen it has one button known as the Home Button.

I love the fact that Apples stock went up like 8-9% and that companies like blackberry went down 7.9%

I spoke with a cingulair rep and I guess it will not be billed as a PDA Connect that is $40. It will be Smartphone connect for $20. The touch screen seems really cool and innovative.

Apple is not one to release a product that people can't use. They are not the first to release a "Smartphone" but they are the first to do anything like this.

I want to know if it's made out of Zirconium like all the rumor sites suggested that it is.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zirconium

That is a pretty cool metal from the wiki entry.

When is a cell phone contract not 2 years? Everyone I have ever had has been 2 years except for my T-Mobile MDA has a 1 year contract. I can't wait to ditch that crappy service. Their data network is bullshit.

I was on the ferry boat yesterday and met a lawyer who has the Cingular Wireless card and was showing me how fast their data network is. I was impressed but have yet to see EVDO in action yet.

I've got a Blackberry. The best thing about it is the speed and accuracy of text entry. I can rapidly create email, text messges, wiki entires, etc. all from my phone. I can't see giving that up for a bigger screen.

I don't think Apple is even looking at the Blackberry market. They will be happy with 1 percent of total cell phone market share. I think they are targeting kids addicted to cell phones and the ipod? Cingular will come up with some long term plan that puts them all in debt. I can't stand Cingular so I'll stick to my motorola and ipod. That thing is cool as hell though. They should interface the ipod with bluetooth phone. Then you could use ANY phone with your ipod.

I think they are targeting everyone. But I don't know many kids that have $500 or $600 to drop on a phone. Most kids I see like the RAZR and the Choclate. I never hear people talking about how great the SLVR is.

Well lets think about this. How easy is it to use your phone? I have had a Sanyo 8100 when I was back on Sprint and I must say I have yet to experience a phone UI that is easy to use.

I have Motorola as of now and it is not pleasant either. Being a Hardcore Mac Guy I have Windows Mobile and can't say that I am a fan. Palm was a nice little relief but still ehh.

I am totally impressed by this phone and apple has a good idea about Sexy.

I happen to have a SLVR and love it, as far as a candy bar phone goes. Lots of folks out there that love theirs as well. Very hackable, very customizeable. You just haven't been looking hard enough for how great a phone it is.

I was just not a fan of the actual layout of the phone. Buttons and interface. But it's all about what you like. =)

That's true but when the RAZR launched it was bitchin' expensive. I like my motorola but it's Nextel so the Software is different. Java based I think.

And apple does know the "Sexy" dept.

I can't think of a kid around that doesn't have a RAZR. Little conformists.
