He was a great author and will be missed. My dad turned me on to him, read and loved all of his books.

I can't help it. Every time I hear his name I think of "Back to School" when Rodney hires him to do a paper on "Kurt Vonnegut" and the Professor ends up flunking him telling him "You know nothing about Kurt Vonnegut!"

My late Sister-in-Law turned me on to Vonnegut. He always had a great perspective, a biting wit, and was anti-establishment to the end. I loved all of his books, and i even managed to find a "Kilgore Trout" novel at an old bookstore one time, i bought it and read it, but, i cant remember the name of it (i guess im getting old)

RIP Kurt and thanks.

My dad told me about Vonnegut when I was in high school. He was the first author I became obsessed with and had to read all of his work. His work made a deep impression on me.

Yeah...big fan of Kurt. Probably my favorite opening to one of his books is from 'Timequake'.

'I say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit. I am then asked if I know of any artists who pulled that off. I reply, "The Beatles did".'

Ting-a-ling...

Edgar, yes thats the book "Venus on the Half-Shell"!

I always assumed it was Vonnegut, imagine my surprise this morning when i wikied "Kilgore Trout" and found out it was NOT Vonnegut.

I cant remember which book it is, but, all throughout the book, if he had a point he was REALLY trying to make he would start the sentence with "Listen", i am going to have to dust off my old Kurt books and re-read some of them for old times sake.

One of the things I remember that my own science-fiction writing father told me was that Kurt Vonnegut and my father (Jack Chalker) were at opposite ends of book signings, and Jack shouted out loud, "You must be really good if you're a science fiction writer, even though you're not!"

And yet, I have no idea why he heckled him.

Its funny, cause at first, he was branded Science Fiction, and he certainly dealt with some SF themes, but, he definitely wasnt a Asimov, or Heinlen thats for sure, Kurt was more like a Bradbury if anything.

One more point i need to make

Not to be Divisive or anything, (I know we are trying to be one big happy family) but, on the "Other site" the only replies given to the Kurt thread over there are basically a bunch of either "who cares" or "who"

IMO, it speaks volumes for SBS and its members.
