I dont think either company is going to make a big $$$$ content deal again until they see if the stern effect truly pays off for sirius....

With XM announcing all of their new womens programming, does this bode well for Sirius to get Oprah if she were to come to satellite radio???? Did XM announce all of this new programming because they are NOT going to sign Oprah and this was their second choice OR is this going to be the platform to hear Oprah on satellite radio?

Default Oprah on Sirius

As much as I dislike Oprah the fans she would bring to sirius can not be denied so Oprah would definatley be a good thing 4 Sirius.

Oprah is a special case that requires a more money and probably more difficult negotiations. I wouldn't read anything into whether XM will or will not fight to get Oprah based upon this. XM needed this content just to try to stay even with the Cosmo and Martha channels. If Sirius gets Oprah, I think XM will have a much more difficult time competing for the women customers.

Oprah and Howard are such a 1-2 punch that you have to believe that how the market reacts will be a barometer for the acceptance of satellite radio in general circa 2005.

Oprah and Rush are the two big fish that are left. I would love to have her on Sirius.

Oprah does not need XM or SIRIUS. She is viable and doing quite well without either. Being on SATRAD really does nothing for her because she has mass appeal already. And yes, her contract will be larger than Stern's due to the fact of her mass appeal. Stern fans are a select, intriguing group whereas Harpo, I mean Oprah has a broader fan base. It will be interesting though.

Oprah would bring a lot of attention to Sirius. That being said I am worried about this because she is not radio where Stern is radio. Oprah will also cost a ton of money but which company is ready to let her go? I don’t know how many subs she would bring to Sirius but I guess it would be nice hearing or seeing a Sirius commercial on all of her shows.

The same could be said of Martha Stewart, but we know a deal was made there. It is hard to know the motivations of these people that seem to have more than enough money but still increase their workload by signing new deals.

Oprah and Howard on the same team would be huge. If we get an announcement of Oprah coming this fall, the overall 4th quarter movement will be crazier than last year.

I do not think she would do that. That would put her on the same page as dr. judy (i think it was her). And I think the beef that stern has had with Oprah (at least up until this week) was more media than Howard. He didn't have a problem with her not being fined but rather the FCC not doing there job and creating new rules for her.

Of coarse the Hermes thing might have changed it a little.
