pretty fair and honest article....NHL is going to have to go through a rebuilding process. The parity in the salaries will make for an overall improvement of most teams and make the season much more exciting (along with the rule changes ). Similar can be said for the luxury tax in MLB this season creating parity in the game and making for an overall better baseball experience for the fans.....

NHL will survive this... hockey fans are some of the most passionate fans in all of sports

at the very least... for a few seasons theres alot of cities where you can take the kids to a hockey game for only 10 bucks a ticket.........
Attendance has been in a general decline for several years now. So the passion is gone for many.

Ten bucks a ticket isn't going to pay for the salary increases the players are demanding.

Their only TV contract is with the Outdoor Life Network. Not impressive.

It's pretty much anyone's guess whether the NHL regains its lost stature or continues its slide to irrelevance. One thing is for sure, it will be an uphill battle.

Here's how it hurts Sirius: I already have XM and was planning on getting Sirius for the NHL coverage. Now I don't have to. There has to be a lot of people like me that have no need for Sirius now.
