Sure will, but I would rather loose the NHL then NASCAR.
I think that will have more of a affect on XM then NHL on
SIRIUS. Also we will have a year to get some subs and maybe
they will stick around for the other content that we have. I rather
have both but I think NASCAR is alot bigger the Hockey!!

You are exactly right this will effect Sirius Canada, now we're still (probably) going to loose channels and in turn now get LESS Canadian subs.

Not quite sure how much of an impact this will have on Sirius. This was certainly going to be a big selling point for Sirius in Canada, but with it not being for 2 seasons away, it may not have a big impact. As far as American subs, I doubt that it will have any impact that will be of substance. I personally hate the NHL, and do not know of too many people whom care for it. If anything, the money that was being spent on the NHL contract could be put towards advertising the NFL or something more important.

This will be huge impact and kudos to XM for getting it started now with the 05-06 season, rather than like the Nascar "what and see" approach. Prospective buyers in Canada won't need to buy SIRI then switch over, they just won't buy SIRI at all. Why even go through the licensing to lose the NHL the same day? Horrible Mel.

NASCAR what and see approach or is it Wait and see approach? Either way I don't understand this comment.

Perhaps this will get Sirius to drop their plans to add Canadian channels and have us lose some channels.

Sirius going go be in Canada, in some ways in terms of financially it will cost Sirius less money to setup shop in Canada. XM is going to have to put up a lot of repeaters to get the same level of service. I think regardless of NHL Sirius will be there.

I may be totally wrong here, and probably am, but didn't Mel say that Sirius Canada was legally counting subs. as its own company and had no effect on Sirius bottom line. If that is the case Sirus Canada and Xm Canada are in an entirely different market, so it can be reasoned that Xm might have just signed a deal that only allows them to carry the NHL on XM America and not XM Canada, this will still allow Sirius Canada to get rights to carry and broadcast the NHL to the Sirius Canada subscribers. I just feel like if they are going to treat the two divisions of the same company as indepedent, then they should make them totally different. I hope im not the only person that thinks this way, probably am as I probably am the only one here with a brain tumor.

CSR is paying a portion of the contract, which would insinuate they have the same access.

I don't view this as any major blow to Sirius. Many Canadians aren't as fond of the NHL as some might think.

They have their own national pro hockey league, as well as regional leagues. Sirius would be wise to go after contracts with these entities.

Sirius also needs to make a major effort to land an exclusive contract with the Canadian Football League.

All is not lost because they lost the NHL.

I'm thinking they have their eyes on CFL. That's the only way to explain not gettig the NHL deal imo.
