You're comparing apples and oranges. Between those 2 teams there's maybe 35-40 MILLION potential listeners in the AM market these deals cover.... How many of XM's 7 mil subs will tune in the Yankees and BoSox?
it is not apples/oranges and it is at least the closest comparative you can get. what it does is to illustrate just how valuable a property mlb is. yes there are differences between the contracts but the point is that as you say there are 35-40 m potential listeners in just these two markets. consider that xmsr has them ALL and the scope of it becomes clear.

60m/yr for all games probably is not a bad deal given that it is an 11 yr deal which means it will be on xmsr long enough for xmsr to justify the investment.

I'm not going to keep arguing this point with you, you have you're opinion and I have mine..

BUT the numbers favor my POV. Maybe, MAYBE 5% of XM's 7 mil signed up for MLB, which is about 350k for all 30 teams.. Just in this NY market the Mets, Yankees and Red Sox have anywhere between 30-50 MILLION potential listeners. And these AM/FM stations will be getting A LOT of $'s back from advertisers. On the other hand has XM signed many subs ($'s) because of their MLB deal? NO!

Sorry, it just doesn't even out. XM overpaid for their MLB deal, and this is coming from me, a HUGE MLB fan.

You just said you are not going to keep arguing but then you go on trying to prove your point more.....

Your post turns the numbers inside out.

You (and me) have no idea how many of xmsrs subs signed up for m.l.b. as ive stated here before you cannot make sense of saying, "x people signed up for mlb" or "y signed up for howard stern". people sign up for 170 or however many channels. mlb is a small part of xmsrs content offering.

at any rate, xmsr has provided the only info we have on this subject which is that their surveys indicate mlb was a "factor" in 26% of new signups. now that may be high or low or whatever, but it is certainly better than pulling 5% out of your ass which is what you did.

taking it one step beyond that, your argument that in the NY mkt the Mets Yankeess & Redsox have 30-50M potential listeners makes no sense, since any potential listener in the "NY mkt" is also a potential subscriber to xmsr.

In effect you are saying there are 30-50m people in ny who are potential terrestrial listeners yet none are potential xmsr subscribers. makes zero sense.

I dont know how many subs xmsr signed because of the mlb deal and you dont either. but it is an 11 yr deal and over 11 yrs we will see. xm is of course generating some ad revenue but not as much as terrestrial does.

I dont really want to argue it either because there is no right answer. xmsr may have paid a little too much but it surely is a much more reasonable deal then any of the other sports deals either service has made.

maybe, but nothing you have said supports your position.

The best thing about MLB is that it has a game on almost every day for 8 monthes so it is great programming. XM once again didnt want to spend that much money but after declining to sign Nascar for the amount Sirius offered and the other 3 sports already in Sirius'es pocket they didnt have a choice.

mlb was signed well before xmsr decided to let nascar go to siri.

it was siris deal with nfl that caused xmsr to sign with mlb when they did. xmsr had been negotiating with mlb for some time before that however xmsr believe it was more prudent to wait until the subscriber base had built up a bit. xmsr would have signed with mlb by now anyway (they would rather have waited a 'couple more' yrs).

For what time period was this survey done? Over the course of 2 years or over the course of the first quarter that baseball came on?
