I wouldn't interpret rules can be changed if requested as a-ok, but it does mean there may (MAY) be a door open.

Here is the link...
Reuters Story

It wont happen... besides that I still do not see how this is good for shareholders and consumers.

These companies have been bleeding cash for 6+ years... they are on the steps of profitability after all of that red.

Again this would have made more sense in 2004 than it does now.

Again I think this is carnival barker style stock pumping...

Back and forth, back and forth. I think a merger would be good for both companies, but even I have to admit this back and forth is getting old.

in my opinion with this announcement today. i expect to hear an announcement of the merger anyday now. only question will be if it will be allowed and that will be a tough sale. just depends on whether they consider ipod, mp3 and am/fm as competition 4 example

You sure you read that right?

FCC Chairman Kevin Martin talked about the potential merger of XM and Sirius Satellite Radio yesterday [Jan 17th], and based on what he said, that merger is not looking good. Martin told reporters after yesterday’s FCC meeting that a restriction against having a single owner for both satellite services was written into regulations that authorized the two licenses in 1997. Martin summed it up in one sentence: “There is a prohibition on one entity owning both of these businesses.” Following Martin’s comments, shares of XM fell 9.9 percent, its biggest drop in eight months; while Sirius fell 7 percent for its biggest decline in a month.(Radio Ink)(1-19-2007)

That's what was said on wednesday. Yesterday,(thursday) he said that's where it stands now, but the regulations could be changed.

Saw some comments on Orbitcast about all this merger stuff coming together way to fast and does it mean that both siri/xm are not nearly as financialy healthy as they claim...this may not be a new thought to some of you but it is to me and its kinda scary that the only hope these two have is a merger...if this industry went away I for one would miss it...

Sirius will be fine without a merger. It makes sense from a business standpoint to pull some resources together with XM, that would benefit the industry as a whole, wether it be a merger, or in some other way. I don't think you have to worry about the industry going away, with over 13 million people that feel as you do about satellite radio. Although, there are a lot of interests out there that wish it would go away.

And I agree with everything you said but lately there's been this question? Why...why does siri want a merger? Everything I've seen has indicated that siri is the one making the most noise about a merger...and if they can make it on their own??? So maybe the long term is not so good??

Awesome idea!

Take two companies with billions in debt and rediculous P&E values and make them into one company. The numbers would be... ultra-rediculous!!

You have to spend money to make money!!

/chuckle

Hype is a sign of weakness.

It depends on what you mean about fine. Fine as in not going tits up ? ... Yes. Fine in the terms of making investors even a reasonable profit. No.

The money ( and services ) these companies could make combined is at least a factor of X6 or X8 compared to go alone.

He said to tell all the Sirius Fans that he only listens to Sirius and wishes us well.

I said I'd pass it on.
