Having read the many threads about this station, I think there are really two questions: do I like the Beat as I have heard it this week, and is it really what Sirius describes it to be? Is "Don't Go" by Yaz really one of "Today's biggest dance hits?"

I do like what I have heard on "The Beat," and it's my A-9 preset. I do think those who complain about the mix, though, have valid points. Perhaps "The Strobe" needs a larger catalog and "The Beat" should be all music from the last couple of years.

Being a casual fan and not really all that concerned with whether the description is apt, just whether or not I like to listen, I like "the Beat."

The Beat always dissapoints me. I see it as the more mainstream "dance" channel, but sometimes (often) they take mainstream too far. I think the problem is that they are trying to cater to the Top40 listener, rather than the dance fan. It always seems like they're trying wayyyy too hard (remixes of SOS? Madonna remixes? Destiny's Child remixes? Do we need that?), and it doesn't come across as having trend-setting taste, as other Sirius channels do (and all should strive to).

I like the channel especially when they do remixes. I just wish they did not play as much madonna which I do not consider dance music if dance music did not watch tv and joined the kaballah faith.

I tuned into this channel quite a few times today and some song by Nick Lachey was on. Sure enough, The Beat played that same song 9 times today. Once would have been plenty, in my opinion.

This is perfect. A self professed casual fan who knows what they are talking about. The Beat is so off right now, you don't have to be a dance guru to see the issue. DAB has suggested we come up with a clear and consise message to deliver to Sirius on what is wrong with the Beat. I think this post sums it up and you can not get better than this "The Strobe needs a larger catalog and The Beat should be all music from the last couple of years."

Sometimes the simplest things are the hardest to make happen.

I'm glad this station was picked for WTD. No need for me to offer anymore personal comments. But it is interesting that not one person has posted yet that they like the Beat the way it is right now.

Anyone?

Anyone?

Bueller?

And the solution is so simple. Ahhh, from the mouth of babes...

this channel is not my cup of tea at all. Hardest of all the channels to date to listen to. Hopefully the walk the dog supercomputer will pick a rockin channel for us next week.

Because of my tastes in music, I'm not a very good judge for this channel. The only songs that I liked were the songs that don't belong on this channel, like the 80's stuff. The only dance channel I had ever listened to before this week was The Strobe. It bothers me that Sirius has alienated so many dance music fans with their programming decisions.

(With all the complaints about this channel, I don't understand why is it getting an impressive 3.71 average after seven votes.)

I was all prepared to hate this channel. Dance is my least favorite genre, in general (or so I thought). The only "dance/electronic" channel I've ever tuned in to was Chill.

But wouldn't you know I sort of enjoyed it, to a point. I had it cranked in my car, and it was hypnotic. I won't say that it will become a preset, or that I'll tune in much in the future, but I think if I'm with other people who are dance fans, I'll turn this on for them and I won't really hate it (like I would have guessed).

Damn you Sirius - for taking music I should hate and making it listenable. Next thing you know, when we have the Broadway channel on Walk the Dog, I'll go around singing show tunes. That's when I'll know I'm in trouble. (lol)

I hate to join in with the pile up. But, as a person who listens to dance music many hours per week, this station is lacking. As a statopn based in New York, there really is no excuse. I can take an obnoxious DJ if the music is good.

Don't know what to say about this channel. I am not a 'dance music' fan. I don't go out to clubs anymore, and dancing isn't something that I am into anymore. I don't know much about 'remixes', etc, however, this wasn't a horrible channel to listen to. Would I come back? Sure - maybe. However, I would happen to be in a specific mood. I didn't think that this was a terrible channel or anything, just not my cup of tea (and therefore I won't comment on the playlist vs the other dance music channels.

I still found this one a lot easier to listen too as opposed to some of the hip hop stations that I suffered through for WTD!
