RyanSirius will become famous soon enough

I listen to this channel all the time. Here's what I think:

Amanda Diva: Excellent show. She's a great host, really loves hip-hop and has a fantastic personality. I would like to see her get a show where she plays poetry or spoken word on HHN or Shade45.

DJ Envy: I expect more from him. He blows up the streets with his mixtapes, but his Sirius show is very generic (see In The Studio below).

After Hours Spot: It's too bad that this show is on at the same time as the Shade45 shows, but it's pretty good. This show is probably the most FM-like in terms of the personalities.

Weekend Joy Ride: Kristal is like the weekend version of Amanda Diva. Check out the mixes by DJ Bijal and DJ Wonder (both SBS members), who posts his mixes right here on SiriusBackstage for us to download.

DJ Premier: A legend. There is nothing that can be said about this show other than: "how did Sirius get Preemo??" I love this show and I hardly ever miss it. Dj Premier, the legend, mixing music for 2 hours-it doesn't get any better than that.

League Crew: This show, to me, is either off or on. They showcase a bunch of different DJs (all belonging to the League Crew). I like some better than others, but there is a League Crew DJ out there for everyone!

DJ Skee: This guy is very much affiliated with The Game and he doesn't hide it. You will hear a lot of songs that you won't hear anywhere else - he plays more of the gangster (vs. Hyphy) West Coast type music. He can't mix for shit, but his show is pretty good.

DJ Self: I recently started listening to this show regularly. I hated it when it was on Wax42, but I really like it now. Self plays a lot of party jams, and does an excellent job when he takes it old school.

DJ Ideal: Not my type of hip-hop, but he does play new stuff, and you can find out what's popping "in da bottom" firsthand.

Bomb Bay Radio: As opposed to Skee, E-Rock plays more of the hyphy. Pretty cool music, but again, not something I listen to weekly.

In The Studio with DJ Envy: They better not be paying Envy for this show. He doesn't do one thing. He says the same thing after every song (Yeah, you're in the studio with the people's choice, DJ Envy. You wanna hear something, call me up 877-33-Sirius, let's go), and his show tends to not change from week to week. He plays the same stuff, in the same order. There's no mixing, no scratching, nothing... It's like listening to a stripped-down version of his afternoon show, but from 2-3 weeks ago.

Dj Jamad - If you don't like rap, listen to this show. If you do like rap, listen to this show. It's unbelievable. Jamad plays some great jazz fusion hip-hop, and I absolutely love this show---I bought serveral of his Afromentals mixtapes as a result of this show. This show is a must-listen, for everyone!

Violator DJs: Like League Crew, there are a bunch of different DJs that are featured. I generally like the DJs here better than on League Crew, but again, it depends on who's featured.

Wonder Twinz: This is like 2 shows. The Wonder Twinz play regular HHN music for part of the time, and they also mix and play their own stuff for part of the time. The latter is some of the best hip-hop radio you will hear all week, on any of the channels.

DJ Concept and Micky Knox - If you like pure hip-hop, this show is for you. You hear B-Sides, exclusives, backpacker songs...I love this show so much; it's really awesome. They mix really well and play mind-blowing music.

Fix Ya Face: When Wax42 was taken off the air, I missed DJ Noodlez. He's responsible for some of the most creative remixes out there today, and his show is always a good time.

Pure Amazement: Like the Mix Chronicles, this show is for hip-hop heads, and I absolutely LOVE this show as well. Really, really great music and you don't feel like a cheap whore after listening to it.

Mixtape Kings Countdown: A very cool show: they count down the best mixtapes of the week and play songs from them. I like this show because I can't buy every mixtape, so at least I get to hear what's going on in the streets. This show is definately a necessity for fans.

Southern Smoke: I'm not a fan of Southern music, but I have checked the show out, and it is listenable (even for someone that has a hard time with The Aphilliates). DJ Smallz is very hype as of late, and this show is cool to have on Sirius.

I am going to listen to some of the feature shows before I issue my rating. I don't generally like modern hip-hop and rap and didn't care for what I heard during the day. I am interested especially in some of the mix shows though.

Try as I might, I just can't get into modern hip hop. But, for some reason, I found this channel actually better than Shade 45 from WTD week 2.

Thumbs up

I have to say, Rap-Hip Hop has gotten better over the years. I'm not like a big fan of the music, but I enjoy listening.

To me, the music has gotten more artistic over the years. I know some of you will say "this is music", or "this is art". Well, it is...

Whether you like the music or not, Hip Hop has gotten more complex. The more you put into it, the more you get out of it. And I would have to say that Hip Hop is more on the cutting edge then any other type of music these days.

Hip Hop Nations is a good channel. I didn't get to listen to the DJ's much, but I did enjoy the music. I'll listen some more this weekend...

Definitely one of my favorite presets. I like that it's a dedicated rap station instead of the FM hip hop and R&B stations. I listen to this channel a lot when I don't have my son with me.

I have to respectfully disagree with Semipenguin. I think hip hop peaked in the early '90s - Public Enemy, Snoop Dogg, etc. In some ways the genre has played itself out, and doesn't have much new to say. I still enjoy it on some level, but only occasionally. I couldn't really tell the difference between the songs on this channel as compared to those on Shade 45. So I tried to listen to the personalities. I didn't hear any I liked that much. On Shade 45, I liked the Clinton Sparks show on Thursday nights, so I think that's where I'll continue to go for my hip hop, not Hip Hop Nation.

This is my least favourite style of music. I really don't care for hip hop. However, in the spirit of WTD, i gave it an honest try at various times of the week. A big negative for me, was that i couldn't listen to this at work. I like to listen to Sirius all day at the office in the background, and found this one too difficult to listen too. The language was one thing, but the beats/noises that occur doesn't suit office listening (much like Area 33 from this week too).

Having said that, I listened to it at home this past week too, on several occassions, including a 5 hour block yesterday while doing household chores. I appreciate those who enjoy this type of music and think its getting more complex, etc. Good stuff. Its good to hear this type of music is evolving. However, it just isn't for me. I am glad I gave it an honest effort, but I suffered though most of it. Its not my type of music, and i can't see myself ever tuning back to Hip Hop Nation. I enjoyed Backspin MUCH more than this.
